Weight Loss Myths, Fad Diets and Scams
Are you serious about weight loss? This article describes weight loss myths and explains the truth about dieting.
Weight Loss Myth #1: Fat loss will come naturally if you follow a low carbohydrate diet.
Truth: The truth is that low carbohydrate fad diets are not effective for long-term weight loss. Cutting back on all carbs helps you lose weight initially and will even help you reach your weight loss goal, but the chances that you maintain the weight loss are slim. Restrictive diets are mentally challenging. What happens is the first time you give in to carbohydrate cravings you want more and try to make up for the time you deprived yourself of them. Furthermore, studies show that the brain needs carbohydrates for proper functioning.
Weight Loss Myth #2: Diet pills are the easy way to lose weight.
Truth: Some diet pills are dangerous to your health. Over-the-counter weight loss products aren't fully tested or FDA approved. Whether it's a water pill, a fat blocker or a metabolism enhancer, diet pills pose a health risk and have been known to cause illness and even death. Even diet pills that are approved by the FDA are risky. Products are often pulled from shelves after research show unhealthy side effects. Diet pills may help you lose weight fast; they do not provide lasting weight loss.
Weight Loss Myth #3: The top 10 fad diets are based the latest technology and information for weight loss, making them ideal to lose weight fast.
Truth: Many top 10 fad diets are just worthless weight loss products. They are scams to fool people into making the purchase. They exist only to make money off of unsuspecting overweight individuals. A top 10 fad diet may be based on a portion of a recent study that makes sense from a dieter's perspective, but they rarely offer the big picture. Just because a book has been published on a particular weight loss topic does not make it the best weight loss plan.
Weight Loss Myth #4: Low-fat diets expedite fat loss. Eating low-fat and fat free foods is a simple plan and healthy way to lose weight.
Truth: Low-fat diets actually slow your metabolism, making it more difficult to lose weight and maintain your weight loss. Low-fat diets also leave you feeling hungry and deprived. The body needs a certain amount of healthy fats for normal functioning. Fat also helps you feel full longer. Switching to fat-free and low-fat products alone will not help you reach your weight loss goals.
Weight Loss Myth #5: Supplements are a safe method for accelerating weight loss.
Truth: Supplements advertise their natural ingredients that aid weight loss. The truth is that 97% of weight loss supplements are completely worthless. Supplements are not regulated and while they may boast all natural ingredients, that doesn't mean they are healthy for your body.
Avoid Fad diets and Lose Weight the Healthy Way
These myths bring up the questions of why people are encouraged to buy weight loss products that don't work. Companies that sell top 10 fad diets and run weight loss scams are simply capitalizing on a billion-dollar industry. Obviously, these companies don't want overweight people to know the truth about healthy, simple plans that work. That would cost them sales.
The healthy way to lose weight is to avoid top 10 fad diets and weight loss scams. Fad Diets & Weight Loss
A diet may be a fad diet or a healthy diet. People often start a fad diet for fast weight loss. They do not realize that quick weight loss and a fad diet is not the answer for their weight problem. They may lose weight initially but that may not
be permanent. The fad diets recommend to eat a certain group of foods and eliminate some foods or a group of foods from the diet. Such diets are not without a danger.
Some of the fad diets are:
Grapefruit Diet: This diet recommends to eat only grapefruit.
Low Carb Diet: This diet recommends to eat foods low in carbohydrates.
Low Fat Diet: This diet recommends to eat foods low in fats or eliminate fats in diet.
High Protein Diet: This diet recommends to eat only protein rich foods, eliminating carbohydrates
Note that these diets recommend to eliminate some food groups that are essential for a healthy body. These diets may offer only a temporary solution and are not based on the recommendationsof the food pyramid. On using a fad diet, you may
lose weight fast, but lateron you may again gain weight and your body may be deficient in many nutrients that can develop health problems.
A good diet should provide all the major nutrients including dietary fibers, carbohydrates, proteins, good fats, minerals, and vitamins. The best way to tackle overweight and obesity problem is to eat a balanced diet and do some physical exercise daily.
You should not start any diet if it does not allow any major group of the food pyramid. The negative calorie diet is based on neagtive calorie foods that include vegetables, fruits,
legumes, lentils, and beans, so it allows all the major nutrients in the diet necessary for good health. By eating these foods, you will never feel hungry and you will never gain
weight. If you remain physically active and eat these foods, you will deop pounds permanently.

Wellness Coaching – A Spiritual Look at Obesity and Overeating
In recent years, it has become very evident that obesity is a battle for many people. While we can document infinite research supporting scientific reasons for emotional eating, food addictions, and overeating, for those of us who look at science from a holistic perspective we can not deny the spiritual reasons for this life threatening disease.
From a holistic health and wellness coaching perspective, one must deal with the spiritual aspects of living as an obese person. Obesity begins with an uncontrollable hunger. However, what really causes this hunger? Often times, when holistic wellness coaches work with clients battling this problem issues surrounding emotional eating, food addictions, and overeating rise to the surface.
And what are these issues? Many people suffering with obesity, emotional eating, food addictions, and overeating are searching for fulfillment and validation. Spiritually, it is the search for fulfillment which causes uncontrollable hunger and overeating while the search for validation triggers emotional eating which leads to food addictions.
Those persons who overeat are trying to fill the voids they feel in their lives. For example, a person who desires passion and a loving relationship may turn to sweets, candies, and cakes to fill the void. They say words like...I love my ice cream. I have to have it. Are these truly words that should be applied to food? On the other, may people who search for validation find themselves eating comfort foods and eventually suffer with food addictions. Those persons who are emotional eaters use food to soothe them at times when they feel lonely, depressed, insignificant, and powerless.
However, the great challenge for those who are obese is dealing with the true causes which have led them to feel unfulfilled or invalid. The challenge for wellness coaches is to help obese clients realize that food is a part of the problem but there is more to contend with. The difficulty is helping obese clients realize that there are not quick fixes for the underlining causes of obesity and concentrating on dropping the pounds is just treating the symptom and not the problem.
Accordingly, due to the nature of our popular culture, wellness coaches will have overweight clients who will simply want the latest pill, shake, powder, or fad diet to get rid of the weight. However, by introducing a holistic approach, wellness coaches can help overweight and obese clients restore a sense of empowerment. When in a position of power, problems with overeating, food addictions, and emotional eating can truly be addressed. Clients will recognize triggers, emotions, and true sources of pain. Moreover, clients will learn to reach self-fulfillment and experience self-validation without the use of food.
In many ways, when dealing with emotional eaters and food addicts, wellness coaches will soon realize that many of the problems faced by alcoholics and drug addicts are quite similar to their obese and overweight clients. In the lives of those battling living with this disorder are enablers, people who don't understand, people and environments which can pressure them to eat unhealthy foods, and those who have been inadvertently hurt by the person suffering from the disease.
While wellness coaching for obesity, food addictions, overeating, and emotional eating does pose some challenges, the reward is knowing you are giving people a second chance at life. You are helping people restore a sense of true self. It's more than just helping people get fit our losing weight. It is all about rebuilding people from the inside out.
