Quick Weight Loss Program — Tips to find good ones

If you are looking in to a lose weight quick program, there are a few things that you should keep in mind when making your decision:

A weight loss program should include all of the foods recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture and should allow the dieter to eat enough calories to keep their metabolism working full force.

Set goals- If the program you are looking in to wants you to write down your weight loss goals, you may have found the right diet plan. Studies have shown that by setting goals for yourself, and writing them down, you are more apt to stick with your diet and reach your goals. Try setting small goals each week (such as to eat less fat or lose 1.5 pounds), these mini goals are not as overwhelming as larger goals, like losing 50 pounds in three months, or whatever your final goal may be. Also, by achieving these smaller goals, we see that we are making progress and are more likely to continue trying than if we don't set any.

Calories are good- Yes, all quick weight loss program rules will tell you that you should limit your calorie intake per day if you are going to lose weight. But, cutting your calories too much can actually stall weight loss just as much as consuming too many calories per day. A good rule of thumb is to eat no less than 1,600 calories per day for men and 1,200 calories per day for women. Beware that some of these "lose weight fast" diets can be very unhealthy and can cause health problems of their own.

Exercise to speed losing weight - For our bodies to gain one pound, we must consume 3,500 more calories than our bodies burn. So, for every pound we want to lose, we must take 3,500 calories from our bodies. This can be achieved by either consuming fewer calories, or by raising our metabolism by exercise. A smart dieter on a quick weight loss program will cut calories to a healthy level and incorporate more exercise into their every day routines to flush more calories from their bodies. Of course, you can overdo exercise, so moderation is key for healthy weight loss.

A quick weight loss program must be healthy and allow the dieter to make healthy choices. Any diet that claims that a person can lose an unbelievable amount of calories in a very short amount of time is probably going to give unsound and unhealthy advice. A dieter should not have to cut out entire food groups from their diet to lose weight. Remember that our bodies work like machines, and all food groups serve a purpose in keeping our bodies functioning at an optimal level. By cutting calories too low, doing extreme amounts of exercising and/or only eating certain foods we can actually cause our bodies to shut down and stop working correctly. Don't fall for the gimmicks. Work hard, set goals, and believe in yourself, and you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Low Carb Diets – Fast Weight Loss Or Big Let Down?

One of the most widely held beliefs among the weight loss community is that low carb diets are the key to a fast slim-down.

Just think of all of the "low carb" diets available...

-- Atkins -- South Beach -- Zone

...just to name a few.

But why do so many weight loss professionals promote carbohydrate restriction?

Four words... it appears to work.

Those who restrict carbohydrates, often do lose weight quickly. And for individuals who are desperate to lose weight this quick slim-down seems like the "light at the end of the tunnel". It appears to them that they have found the "holy grail" of weight loss in cutting carbs.

But have they only been fooled?

The answer is a resounding yes!

The truth is that your body depends on GOOD carbohydrates for the majority of its functions and when there is an absence of GOOD carbohydrates (As there is with carb restricted diets) your body will actually manufacture its own in order to maintain tissues that absolutely need them! Because the manufacturing of carbohydrates takes additional energy your body will burn an excess amount of calories... something that promoters of low carb diets call the "Metabolic Advantage".

Along with the excess use of energy by the body to produce carbohydrates, people who are on low carbohydrate diets are also eating fewer calories because they are consuming far fewer BAD carbohydrates than they typically would on a day to day basis...

-- French fries

-- Boxed cereals

-- Soda (diet or regular)

-- White Bread

-- Refined Pastas

-- Salad Dressings

-- White sugar

It's this combination of an increased use of energy by the body to manufacture carbs and fewer calories from refined carbs going into the body that makes low carb diets produce quick weight loss...

...giving the illusion that the diet is actually working, when really it's only a set up for massive failure!

So what's the problem?

The problem is that most carb restricted diets make no distinction between good carbs and bad carbs. These diets simply teach the elimination of most carbs from your caloric intake. This is a huge mistake because eliminating good carbs from your diet causes the body to go into survival mode, meaning that it will store and ration the food you consume.

As a result, when a person who has been on such a diet begins to eat normal again, the body will store increased quantities of the food they eat as fat!

Your body needs good carbs like whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Vital organs such as your brain, kidneys and liver absolutely will not function without carbohydrates and when these carbs are cut out of your diet for any extended period the affects can be extremely dangerous! At some point you will have to consume good carbs or you will seriously impact your health!

There's no need to partake in low carb diets to lose weight. There are other alternatives that produce faster, healthier and longer lasting weight loss!

Weight Loss Story – The Weight Loss Program You Have to Know About!

Hi there, my name is Letisha, and I want to tell you about how I have lost 46 pounds in only two and a half months. I am a 36 year old married mother of three energetic children! Growing up I was always slim and athletic, and like many of us, after my first child, I just couldn't seem to shed the extra pounds. The same thing happened after my second son was born, and after a while I just 'let myself go', and slowly my weight crept up to a horrifying 280 pounds! I have just gone through five years of trying every diet out there, with not much success. I either got too hungry so I gave up too quickly, or had such a lack of energy, I would reach for the carbohydrate snacks which had made me pile on the pounds in the first place!

Two years ago I did join Weight Watchers, and I do believe that their diet is a safe, sensible and healthy diet, but I would notice that as I started to lose weight, my metabolism slowed down, as my body adjusted to fewer calories, and the weight loss really slowed down. With my metabolism working so slowly I found I had to eat less and less to carry on losing weight. This made me think, well if a healthy eating plan like Weight Watchers does not work with me, what can I do.

I hate to admit this but I again gave up that diet and as usual I reached for the unhealthy snacks and gained back the ten pounds I had lost. I really felt helpless, and wondered if I was the only one who this happened to, so I decided to attend a weight loss group in my area. This weight loss group was for anyone trying to lose weight, it did not advocate one diet or another. It was just for women or men to get together and share their weight loss stories. What I heard that day changed my life.

One person had found an incredible diet online a few months before the weight loss group started, and had shared their story with 6 others, who had decided to follow suit, try the diet and they had all lost between 30 and 60 pounds!! They told me to look online at Fatloss4idiots and to buy the book. Again I must admit I was rather skeptical, as nothing has worked for me in the past. To cut a long story short, I bought the book online as it was not expensive, and while I was reading, it was like a light bulb went off in my head!! Fatloss4idiots answered my question as to why after dieting for a short period of time, I would reach a plateau, and hardly lose more weight.

Fatloss4idiots creators found that when one diets, one's metabolism slows down, it adjusts to the intake of fewer calories, and with it slowing down, it will not burn fat. One has to 'trick' one's metabolism by shifting calories. This means that by eating more calories at one meal, and less calories at the next, and constantly changing how we eat, the metabolism has no time to adjust and becomes sluggish and slow. By shifting calories, it will stay in the 'fast' mode, therefore working hard to burn fat, resulting in huge weight losses. I just could not wait to start "my" new diet!!

The wonderful thing about Fatloss4idiots is that I enjoy it! One can eat more than three meals a day, and with my metabolism working overtime, the pounds are just dropping off. I never feel hungry, and I feel so full of vitality and life. As I said I have lost 46 pounds and I will stay on Fatloss4idiots until I have reached my goal weight. For the first time in my life I have found something which really works, and my weight loss is changing my life in ways I never thought possible. I have never written to a forum before but I am so confident in Fatloss4idiots I wanted to share my weight loss story with others! I know you will be as happy as I am with it.

Health Benefits of Maple Syrup

When you have a sweet tooth yet are trying to look after your health, body, and mind remember to use maple syrup as an alternative sweetener. It contains much fewer calories and has a much higher concentration of key minerals for health than its natural counterpart, honey. Maple syrup has many great benefits but mainly because it is an excellent source of manganese and zinc.

Maple syrup is a thick, viscous liquid which is made from the sap of the sugar of the black or red maple tree. The production of maple syrup simply begins with piercing the tree to allow the sap to run out freely - this sap has a very low sugar content when first tapped and is flavour free. However with the boiling process it evaporates to produce the sweet syrup we all know and love.

The manganese content in maple syrup is essential to the production of enzymes in your body which are all important in the bodies natural antioxidant defense and also for the production of energy. One tiny ounce of maple syrup can supply us with up to 22% of our daily amount of this mineral.

Another of the main health benefits of maple syrup is that it acts as a good sweetener if you are trying to look after your heart. The zinc content of maple syrup acts as an antioxidant to help prevent damage caused by cholesterol and other fats. The zinc and manganese content in maple syrup also helps build a healthy immune system as your immune cells depend on zinc to perform to perfection. This means that maple syrup can enable your body to heal better than it would without the extra minerals.

There are some other health benefits of maple syrup making it a very healthy food to add to your diet. It is a one hundred percent natural organic food - there is no way in which it can be altered unless adding ingredients to it. Although it is three times as sweet as cane sugar it has fewer calories!! The sugar content of the maple syrup is completely pure, it is not reduced, and it goes through no production or processing and therefore is cleaner and better for your body. As you can see, there are many health benefits of maple syrup making extremely sweet on your health as well as your diet!

Can Vitamin B12 Help Weight Loss

You may have heard claims of B12 shots producing significant weight loss in no time. You also may have heard scientists say that there’s no proof B12 helps you lose weight (but it has been proven to keep you from gaining it). So what’s the truth? What is B12 and does it really help you lose weight?

B12 is a nutrient we naturally get in our diets. It is vital for out body to function normally. A B12 deficiency can have serious effects on your body. Would you make a cake a purposely leave out the flour, sugar, or baking soda? Of course not. When you leave an important ingredient out, the cake just does not work right. Your body is the same way. If you’re lacking an important nutrient like B12, your body just does not work right. By adding this vital nutrient to your system, you’re letting your body operate more effectively and efficiently. This improves your overall health and helps you lose weight.

B12 gives you a great energy boost. While this may not take off the pounds in itself, it can get you up and moving. Many people don’t exercise because they’re just too tired at the end of a long day. With this extra energy, you can go to the gym or even just take a walk around the block. Plus, if you find your energy level dragging between shots, you can get more B12 in your diet to keep yourself going.

B12 boosts your metabolism. This means that you digest your food faster and burn more calories just by sitting there. And the more calories you burn, the fewer calories you store as fat. Plus, if you increase your exercise level, you’ll boost your metabolism even more!

If you’ve looked into B12 shots, you’ve probably noticed they’re a bit pricey; usually about $65 a piece. As I mentioned earlier, we all have B12 in our system that come from the food we eat. While getting shots may be a bit more potent, you can get more B12 into your system by adding it into your diet. Don’t try pills, they don’t work as well. Just eat more foods that are rich in B12. Some suggestions for food high in B12 include: clams, liver, trout, and salmon. You can also find foods, such as breakfast cereal that have been fortified with B12 and other vitamins and minerals.

There are many arguments for and against B12. There are scientists who will claim that there’s no proof of its effectiveness, but what about the thousands of people who say they’ve lost weight? The key to losing weight is that there’s no magical shot or pill, you have to work at it. However, combined with diet and exercise, B12 could be the boost your system needs to finally take those extra pounds off.

Strict Weight Loss Diet

Following a strict weight loss diet requires a great deal of discipline, sacrifice, and reconditioning of the way you think about food. But losing weight should not have to be difficult. Did you know that it is entirely possible to experience rapid weight loss without the use of diet pills, without cutting back on the quantity of the food, without sacrificing fats or carbs, and without exercising?

The calorie shifting diet, unlike other mainstream diets, does not require much in the way of sacrifice. You can eat as much food as you want at every meal until you are satisfied. You get to eat food from each of the four major food groups. You never feel hungry and your cravings for food never go unfulfilled.

The calorie shifting diet is based on the principle that it is possible to manipulate your body's metabolism at will and induce weight loss through the stimulation of the hormones that are responsible for burning fat cells in your body. This may sound like what a diet pill does. But in reality, it is possible to achieve rapid weight loss results through natural meals, simply by shifting the types of calories you consume rotationally from meal to meal over the course of each day.

Your body's metabolism reacts to the absence or the presence of certain nutrients in your system by either consuming them for energy or storing them as fat. Consumed in the right combination, you can recondition your metabolism to believe that it is being deprived of certain nutrients and thus tap into your fat stores for energy. But by the time your body begins to burn fat, you reintroduce that nutrient back into your system and then withhold another type of nutrient. Because different types of foods have different densities, you might eat fruits and vegetables at one meal and breads at another meal, but because fruits and vegetables are lighter, you will be eating fewer calories at that meal than if you eat bread at your meal. So even though you are eating to your satisfaction at each meal, you are indirectly also consuming fewer calories.

Thus there is no need to follow a strict weight loss diet when you can follow a diet such as this. While on this diet, you can expect to lose 9 pounds every 11 days.

There are only 4 basic rules to this diet:

Eat as much food as you want at each meal until you are satisfied but not too full. Overeating is counterproductive on any diet. Space your meals out by at least 2.5 to 3 hours. You should give your body ample time to completely digest its food from the previous meal before you eat your next meal. You are required to take a 3-day break from your diet every 12th through 14th days. This will give your body a chance to rest from the rapid weight loss you will be undergoing. You must eat four meals a day according to the calorie shifting diet's personalized meal planner.
Here is a sample diet plan that illustrates how this diet works. The diet actually is designed to work in 11-day cycles, but only 3 days are shown here for brevity. Keep in mind that you can eat your four daily meals in any order you want during each respective day.

On day #1, your four meals of the day could look like this, depending on the custom choices you make when you generate your diet plan:

Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs Meal

Lunch: Sandwich (any type)

Dinner: Tuna Salad

Snack: Flavored Oatmeal

You can of course shuffle these meals around and eat them in any order on that day. For example, you can have oatmeal for breakfast and scrambled eggs for dinner, and a sandwich as your "snack".

On Day #2, your meal plan would look like this. Note that this meal plan is based on two things- your custom choices in your meal plan, and is based on what you eat on Day #1... If you change what you ate on Day #1, your food choices would be different on Day #2, and Day #3 subsequently:

Breakfast: Cottage Cheese

Lunch: Scrambled Eggs [and] Mixed Vegetables

Dinner: Chicken

Snack: Banana Milk Shake

Again, you can shuffle these meals around and eat them in any order you wish on that day. And of course, you can eat as much as you want at each meal. So there is no limit on how much chicken you would have at dinner, for example, as long as you do not eat until you are too full.

And here is Day #3:

Breakfast: ottage Cheese

Lunch: Fish Filet

Dinner: Fruit Salad

Snack: Chicken

As is evident from the meal plan above, this is an idiot-proof diet that does not require much discipline, commitment of willpower, or sacrifice, because you are practically eating as much as you want of every food group.

Wellness – It Begins at Home

Wellness is defined as "health or striving toward it as a goal."  As a society something has gone awry in our methods of striving for wellness.  Perhaps we simply have taken for granted that wellness will always be our fortune.  The facts are that

60% of the population of North America is overweight 30% of the population of North America is obese Diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions chronic illness due to overweight conditions is rapidly on the rise 75% of all health care dollars in the U.S.A. are spent on managing chronic illness health care premiums are rising at an unaffordable rate and will continue to do so unless things change
First and foremost, there is an urgent need to educate and inform people about the importance of eating  with nourishment in mind rather than just to satisfy the palate.  Also, today's hurried lifestyle combined with  the fact that both parents in many households are working away from home  has resulted in poor or no meal planning.  The result is that the consumption of fast foods and processed meals has become the norm for most meals which means that people are consuming too much fat, sodium and refined carbohydrates.

It is not necessary to go on a "diet" to eat well.  All one really needs to do is follow the guidelines such as the USDA Food Guide Pyramid or the Canada Food Guide.  It is important to have 6-10 servings of fruits and vegetables(depending on your age and category), 6-8 grain products(preferably whole grain), 2-3 milk or milk alternatives and 2-3 meat or meat alternatives, daily to maintain the proper balance of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

One of the biggest mistakes made today is that  thirst is often mistaken for hunger and we reach for food when we are really in need of hydration.  Drinking water before a meal can also help prevent overeating at the meal.

A second great mistake made is skipping breakfast which is perhaps the most important meal of the day.  Even though we may not feel hungry, we must remember that  the body has fasted all night and is in need of nourishment.

Understanding proper portion sizes is also vitally important.  In this day of super sizing meals, our perception of  a normal portion size is grossly exaggerated.

It is very important to eat slowly and chew our food well.  This serves two purposes -

When we eat slowly, we give the body a chance to register that it is feeling full before we overeat.  When we eat quickly, we overeat before the body gets a chance to register that it is satisfied, but by that time we've consumed a few mouthfuls too many.  When we chew our food well it is much easier for the body to digest it.
People often make the mistake of starving themselves when they diet thinking that they are sure to lose weight because they are consuming fewer calories.  The mistake in that way of thinking is that depriving the body of food puts the body  into a preservation mode which triggers it to want to store fat.  Not eating also causes a slow down in the body's metabolism which will result in fewer calories burned.

The solution is to eat enough and to eat well.  Drink plenty of water every day.  Eat three smaller meals a day  with two healthy snack times in between, rather than three larger meals.  This not only prevents over eating at a meal but  it  also keeps the metabolism up throughout the day.   As much as possible eat natural and whole foods.   Drink tea (minus the sugar and milk for full antioxidant value) in place of sweetened juices and soft drinks.  Keep a daily journal of all the things you eat everyday.  When you write things down, you tend to be more aware of all you are eating, especially  during the snack times.  Always sit down to eat - it is easy to disregard the foods we pick at while we are standing.   Last, but not least, never eat after 7:30 p.m.   The body will not be in a position to use calories for energy when it is in a resting mode.

Habits are difficult to break and sometimes small changes at a time are more effective than radical change.  For greater success,  replace an old habit with a new habit .  For example, if you were in the habit of having an evening snack while watching television, either change the snack to a glass of water or a cup of tea, or change the activity from watching television to taking a short walk.   If we make the thoughtful intention to be well,  wellness will be attainable.

Diets and Weight Loss Products

Many of us around the world are facing problems on weights. Most are suffering from excessive weight gain and obesity. Many try to lose weight but struggle to find an effective weight loss method. Unluckily, there is no easy way. One way to lose weight and keep it off is by making permanent lifestyle changes.

Nowadays, about 100 million people or more go on diet every year. But sadly, only 10 to15 percent tend to maintain the weight loss method. We can not deny the fact that many of us have some misunderstandings on what method of diet is healthy and what is not. As the rate of obesity has increased, so has the market for weight-loss products. Let us say, you choose to use an over-the-counter weight loss product or participate in a weight loss program, the bottom line is that you still must eat fewer calories than you burn to lose weight.

When selecting a weight loss product or program, gather as much information as possible. Just one thing, beware of high costs, pressure to buy special foods or pills, and fraudulent claims. There are a lot of risks on that. Some examples of ineffective or useless diet products include: diet patches, magnet diet pills, certain bulk fillers, electrical muscle stimulators, appetite suppressing eyeglasses and magic weight loss earrings.

How do we say that they are ineffective? Diet patches have been removed from the market by the FDA because they were ineffective as diet aid. Magnet diet pills on the other hand allegedly flush fat out of the body which is unhealthy. While certain bulk fillers may cause internal obstruction. Electrical muscle stimulators may remove by the FDA from the market if promoted for weight loss. Appetite suppressing eyeglasses and magic weight loss earrings are said to claim colored lenses project image on retina and decrease appetite and control hunger by stimulating acupuncture points respectively.

There are actually a lot of different kinds of weight loss products that are on sale. They are sold over the counter in various retail outlets such as pharmacies, health food stores, grocery stores and are also available online. Under the right circumstances, some of these may be safe and effective when used as part of a weight management program that promotes a reduced intake of dietary calories and an increase in physical activity. But if you are considering the use of weight loss products, you should be aware of potential risks so you can make informed choices.

Above all these, the best weight loss products come in one: natural diet. It is as simple as eat healthier, watch portion sizes, be responsible and be active.
