Weight Loss Myths, Fad Diets and Scams

Are you serious about weight loss? This article describes weight loss myths and explains the truth about dieting.
Weight Loss Myth #1: Fat loss will come naturally if you follow a low carbohydrate diet.
Truth: The truth is that low carbohydrate fad diets are not effective for long-term weight loss. Cutting back on all carbs helps you lose weight initially and will even help you reach your weight loss goal, but the chances that you maintain the weight loss are slim. Restrictive diets are mentally challenging. What happens is the first time you give in to carbohydrate cravings you want more and try to make up for the time you deprived yourself of them. Furthermore, studies show that the brain needs carbohydrates for proper functioning.
Weight Loss Myth #2: Diet pills are the easy way to lose weight.
Truth: Some diet pills are dangerous to your health. Over-the-counter weight loss products aren't fully tested or FDA approved. Whether it's a water pill, a fat blocker or a metabolism enhancer, diet pills pose a health risk and have been known to cause illness and even death. Even diet pills that are approved by the FDA are risky. Products are often pulled from shelves after research show unhealthy side effects. Diet pills may help you lose weight fast; they do not provide lasting weight loss.
Weight Loss Myth #3: The top 10 fad diets are based the latest technology and information for weight loss, making them ideal to lose weight fast.
Truth: Many top 10 fad diets are just worthless weight loss products. They are scams to fool people into making the purchase. They exist only to make money off of unsuspecting overweight individuals. A top 10 fad diet may be based on a portion of a recent study that makes sense from a dieter's perspective, but they rarely offer the big picture. Just because a book has been published on a particular weight loss topic does not make it the best weight loss plan.
Weight Loss Myth #4: Low-fat diets expedite fat loss. Eating low-fat and fat free foods is a simple plan and healthy way to lose weight.
Truth: Low-fat diets actually slow your metabolism, making it more difficult to lose weight and maintain your weight loss. Low-fat diets also leave you feeling hungry and deprived. The body needs a certain amount of healthy fats for normal functioning. Fat also helps you feel full longer. Switching to fat-free and low-fat products alone will not help you reach your weight loss goals.
Weight Loss Myth #5: Supplements are a safe method for accelerating weight loss.
Truth: Supplements advertise their natural ingredients that aid weight loss. The truth is that 97% of weight loss supplements are completely worthless. Supplements are not regulated and while they may boast all natural ingredients, that doesn't mean they are healthy for your body.
Avoid Fad diets and Lose Weight the Healthy Way
These myths bring up the questions of why people are encouraged to buy weight loss products that don't work. Companies that sell top 10 fad diets and run weight loss scams are simply capitalizing on a billion-dollar industry. Obviously, these companies don't want overweight people to know the truth about healthy, simple plans that work. That would cost them sales.
The healthy way to lose weight is to avoid top 10 fad diets and weight loss scams. The best kept diet plan secrets are simply this: knowing what healthy organic and whole foods to eat and when, regular exercise and having the right mindset. This simple plan is the key to obtaining and maintaining a healthy weight.

Myths About Skin Care and Beauty Products

The skin care and beauty products industry is surrounded by truth, untruths, or lies about some of the products we use. Myths can be stories or legends such as those that surround Roman and Greek mythology. For our purposes here, a myth will be considered as an untruth or fictitious claims about skin care products.

Myth 1 says that using a lot of the product will give you quicker results.

The truth is using too much of a product with active ingredients can do more damage than good. Products with vitamin c, retinol, and alpha-hydroxy acids smooth the skin. Beta-hydroxy acids (salicylic), and benzyl peroxide clear acne flare-ups. The products that have these ingredients should be applied extremely lightly. A pea size drop of retinol cream is enough to do the job.

Myth 2 says that we all need to use skin toners.

The truth is most people; around 90% should not be using them.
Toners strip the natural oils that make your skin feel soft. Gentle cleansing is all that's necessary.

Myth 3 says that you can get addicted to your favorite lip balm.

Lip balms are not as some claim and can be filled with ingredients to dry out your lips so you will keep buying it. We may use a lot because as soon as it wears off we reapply it. Lip licking then applying the balm creates a cycle of wetness and dryness that reduces moisture. Physical addiction to lip balm is not possible.

Myth 4 says that everyone needs to buy eye cream separately.

The truth is skin around your eyes is very thin and needs a bit more care. Using a very hydrating face cream is fine if carefully applied around your eyes. There is no need for a separate eye cream.

As you can see, some of the myths revolve around ingredients and they may or may not perform. Another myth addresses whether you can become addicted to lip balm and again no it is impossible to do so. Two of the myths address the need for specific types of products.

Skin care and beauty products have ingredients in them that are beneficial and others that are harmful. The good ingredients need to be present in high quantities in order to provide the best results. The best skin care product should be free of chemicals, preservatives and fillers.

Three good ingredients that are very beneficial to your skin are Cynergy TK which is a new substance that actually supports your body in building its own collagen and elastin again.
It keeps your skin flexible and firm and you will see good results as it helps your skin to retain its natural moisture.

CoQ10 comes in different forms that are not the same. CoQ10 cannot penetrate the skin. The nano-emulsified form called Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 can penetrate the skin. In fact, it can penetrate through to seven layers with good and longer lasting results. It is also a very powerful antioxidant and works to rid your skin of free radicals that can damage your skin.

Phytessence Wakame is a Japanese Sea kelp and it blocks the enzyme called hyaluronidase. This enzyme destroys the skins naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. Without hyaluronic acid the collagen and elastin fibers would lose the 'glue' that keeps them together. Without it, your skin will sag and you will get wrinkles and dark circles around your eyes. Together, these three ingredients make up the strongest skin care and beauty products compound available.

The harmful ingredients include parabens and a substance called dioxanes that have both been linked to causing cancer. Alcohols are drying and irritating to the skin. Mineral oil does not let the skin breathe as it clogs the pores. Your skin can become dependent on it and it can with prolonged use, irritate and dry out your skin.

The Myths Within the Beauty Care Industry

One thing that is quite certain about the beauty and skin care industry is that they are many myths, lies, some truths and lots and lots of products in which to choose from.

Some of the myths that are around include those that state using a lot of different skin care products will help you gain much faster results. The truth of the matter is that too many skin care products on your face all at once can actually do more harm than good.

For instance a lot of the products that are available include vitamins and retinol. If you are treating acne you will also discover that some products contain benzyl peroxide and such ingredients need to be applied very lightly to the skin. The amount required is actually less than the size of a pea, so if you are applying more than this to your skin then you are certainly over doing it.

A lot of people make use of toners with the intention of freshening the skin, but it should be known that many of them contain alcohol which take away any of the essential oils that the skin actually needs, and so the vast majority of people do not actually need to be using them. All that you need to do is to ensure that you are gently washing your face or that you have a gentle cleanser that is effective at removing dirt and grime from the pores of the skin.

Then there is your eyes that you also need to consider. The eye area is very sensitive and delicate and there are many creams and lotions that are specific for this area alone. So what is the difference between an eye cream and a standard moisturiser that you might be currently using? Well the answer is very little, providing that your existing moisturiser is very effective in hydrating your skin then there is actually no need to purchase an additional eye cream.

Weight Loss – 6 Big Weight Loss Myths Unplugged

The weight loss industry is huge. Abundance has led to indulgence. Sedentary lifestyles are taking their toll. Many people all over the world, particularly those in the affluent countries, are participating in various types of weight loss programs. Unfortunately, many of their best efforts at weight loss are affected or bogged down by incorrect information that is widespread in the weight loss industry. We regret that there are indeed many innocent victims of such misinformation. It is therefore appropriate to plug some of the biggest weight loss myths.

Myth #1: Avoid Carbohydrates

Some of the most famous high protein diets such as the Atkins diet, South beach and a host of other popular diets promote a diet rich in protein and low in carbohydrates. Such diets, at best produce significant weight loss in a short amount of time. However, it has been found that the results do not last very long. A switch back to normal diets sees free and easy re-loading of weight.

Myth # 2: Genetics is the Biggest Factor

Admittedly and to a certain extent, genetics do play a role in determining our metabolic rate. However, this does not mean that our weight needs to be locked in by it. Do not put the blame squarely on your origins. The truth is that we can still do something to control or lose weight. The bottom line is that we can still succeed with a weight loss program. One important factor is that we need to be mindful of our calories intake and the amount of physical activity expanded daily. Again, genetics do influence the rate at which we burn our calories. Those with slower metabolic rates may burn calories much slower than those who are active and have higher metabolic rates. The good news is that there are many ways by which a sluggish metabolic rate can be improved.

Myth # 3: All Fat Is Bad

We know that there is good and bad fat. The worst is trans fat and saturated fat which is extremely difficult to breakdown. However, complete avoidance of fat may in fact, be detrimental to good health. You do not have to completely cut down on fat when following a weight loss program. What needs to be done is to increase intake of essential and healthy fats. These are fats such as polyunsaturated and Omega-3 and they can found in foods like fish, olive oil, and avocados.

Myth # 4: Foregoing Meals

Rather than foregoing or skipping meals, regular meals are an important part of any weight loss program. Skipping meals can lower our metabolism thus making it more difficult to lose weight. What we need to do is to have regular meals that are made up of healthy foods. This would include salads, vegetables, nuts and fruits. Snacking on a large slice of juicy melon instead of the next tub of your favorite flavor of ice-cream would make a huge difference.

Myth # 5: Avoid White Food

What are "white" foods? Some examples are, pears, avocados, and certain nuts. Are they all bad? No, it depends on the nutrients or lack of it in those kinds of food. It is not just about food color.

Myth # 6: Grapefruit Miracle

This has clearly been overly exaggerated. There are people who promote grapefruit as a sure weight loss secret. In fact, they believe that grapefruits contain a magical fat-burning enzyme that can simply melt away fat. Such claims have not been scientifically validated. What is known is that grapefruits are rich in lycopene which is a good source of nutrients for cellular care. It helps in the prevention of cancer and heart diseases.
