Weight Loss Story – The Weight Loss Program You Have to Know About!




Hi there, my name is Letisha, and I want to tell you about how I have lost 46 pounds in only two and a half months. I am a 36 year old married mother of three energetic children! Growing up I was always slim and athletic, and like many of us, after my first child, I just couldn't seem to shed the extra pounds. The same thing happened after my second son was born, and after a while I just 'let myself go', and slowly my weight crept up to a horrifying 280 pounds! There are many issues connected with health and well being or wellness. An important one that is often neglected, however, is the effect of our mental beliefs on the performance of the physical body, especially with regards to health. Health And Wellness Following The Baby Boomers




If you are a "Baby Boomer", you have noticed that your health may be a bit different than in your younger years. I am not a "B-Boomer", but I am right behind you! I am in my 30's and notice things don't sit the way they did when I was in my 20's! Ah, The good ol' days! When gravity didn't affect me as much, and I could eat pizza without seeing it appear quickly on my legs and belly, as well as behind me. But such is this time of our life. So, what are we to do? What are the things that affect us the most. We are all different, some more fit than others, some more stressed , and some, unfortunately, with greater physical needs. Some of us, if not most, are affected by aches and pains of one kind or another.

Joint pain, allergies, weight challenges, or just feeling stressed and run down from poor diet. I take that back, not "just stressed". That is the main cause of illness today. Stress can change your health on a cellular level. Check the medical journals, and make your own assessments. The fact remains, stress is a major problem today with all age groups, but we have the "baby boomers " to thank for being a massive part of those studies. The one's affected most by stress, pollution, poor diet, and the "at the time" undiscovered risks involved. Food additives, smoking, and other things we only learned can be damaging AFTER it began affecting them. But now is the time to counteract the things that damage us.

Should one bother to start taking care of themselves now? Absolutely! How? There are many ways. If you are bothered by your weight, you should definitely start some physical activity, but only after your doctor gives you the green light ! Some people may have underlying physical limitations they may not be aware of ! When I worked in a popular vitamin and supplement shop, a woman entered and asked for weight loss pills, a.k.a. "fat burners". I asked her if she had any heart problems in her family history, and she replied, "Yes, I got the problem from these pills, here..." as she pointed to a top selling "thermogenic" or "fat burning" pill. She had taken them without regard that she had a history of heart problems, and was STILL wanting to take a fat burning pill!! Walking and 10 glasses of water a day is still the best way to start raising your metabolism. Please, before you run down to your local health, or vitamin shop, check with your doctor, ask what he thinks about the supplements you wish to use, and check with the company that produces them. If you have a family history of serious, or potentially serious medical problems, you need to cover your bases, and be informed. Ask any relatives if your grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., have any hereditary medical problems. Some physical traits, and underlying problems can go back several generations, so use great caution.

The same goes for physical exercise! I thought I was Wonder Woman when I was 29, after a large weight gain, and decided to get serious fast! Too serious, and too fast! I compressed 2 disks while failing to stretch and warm up. I was also doing the exercises "incorrectly". It took me 3 years to recover. Some aren't as lucky. Some damage, that takes only a split second to happen, can last a lifetime. Painfully limiting you for good.Take 15 minutes or more to stretch properly, then start your exercising. You have a plethora of references to choose from on correct exercise techniques these days! Please, use them! The ideal is a well trained , certified personal trainer. There are affordable health clubs in most cities, that offer a few FREE sessions with one of their certified trainers, to get you on the right track. The alternative is studying exercises yourself. Get a reputable magazine on fitness. There are quite a few, and I enjoy several. The tips are great, and most can even be looked up online. Do a Google search, or Yahoo!, and see what comes up.

What vitamins and supplements should you use? What is the best? There are several good brands available, mostly available at health food stores. The best ones are the "natural vitamins". The others are synthetic, and most of those can't be absorbed into the body. You should take your vitamins and herbal supplements with food, and plenty of water for your body to absorb them properly. Herbal supplements and vitamins taken on an empty stomach can just wash right through your system, not being absorbed the way they should be! Never take vitamin C or ZINC on an empty stomach. It can severely upset your stomach, and cause severe nausea or vomiting.

When I worked in a supplement and vitamin shop, people always complained about the prices.They'd say,"I don't want to pay so much just for vitamins, and supplements! It's too much!" Is it? Really? Most people will spend ridiculous amounts of money on things that won't benefit their body or mind , improve their health, or relieve pain, but will spend for anything else. Ironic, isn't it? Most people don't appreciate it, until it starts to deteriorate. You think I thought twice about my lower back health until I injured it? Not really. Did I think about my great energy levels until they started depleting? Nope ! We all do now, don't we! The right diet and exercise will always help, and the supplements you need are based on what your body tells you.

Wellness – Hoax, Hype Or Real?




"Wellness" is everywhere. We have wellness holidays and wellness homes, wellness drinks and wellness shoes; there are wellness companies and even an entire wellness industry. "Wellness" sounds like a new, trendy concept. Most people don't really know what it is, but it is definitely real.

In spite of "wellness" having burst on the scene seemingly out of nowhere, it is what mankind has sought out at all times. Wellness is what makes life enjoyable. It goes beyond good health. The aim of Wellness is to maintain and improve health, to ensure positive vitality, a strong immune system and resistance to illness.

"Wellness is the condition of good physical and mental health, especially when maintained by proper diet, exercise and habits."

"Wellness is about waking up every morning and having enough time, energy and freedom to live the life you want."

"Wellness is the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal"

What Does Wellness Mean to You?

In contrast to wellness, the term "health", as we use it today, is directly linked to treatment of disease, not its prevention. You seek help from the National Health Service (NHS) when your health is failing and you receive care in your final phase of illness. The health professions are overwhelmed by these demands, and consideration of prevention or enhancement of good health is ignored. The NHS is really a National Sickness Service. It does not ensure health. It provides services reactively to people with existing diseases. Wellness, on the other hand, is proactive: aiming to prevent diseases from developing, to make people healthier and look better, to slow down aging.

Wellness goes beyond good health. The aim of Wellness is to maintain and improve health, to ensure positive vitality, a strong immune system and resistance to illness. The foundation of Wellness is nutrition. We are what we eat. Our health depends on what we eat. Our moods depend on what we eat. Our productivity depends on what we eat. Our enjoyment of life depends on what we eat. And, of course, to get our day off to a great start depends on what we eat to break the fast.

" ...while our evidence suggested that people are, generally speaking, aware of what constitutes a healthy diet, there are multiple barriers to their putting this into practice."

Our lifestyle has become hectic. We are stressed. We don't take time to have three proper meals a day. We resort to fast food and television dinners, skip meals and snack. Convenience foods have reduced the main ingredients in our daily diet to refined carbohydrates, the wrong type of fat and an abundance of caffeine in tea or coffee while we ingest very little fibre, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. By contrast, our calorie intake by far exceeds the calories we burn. Especially fast food provides extremely high levels of calories without leaving us with a feeling of satiation. This lack of stimulus makes us eat more, and we literally pile on the pounds. At the same time we suffer from deficiency of some of the most vital nutrients we need to maintain good health.

As a consequence, dietary related illnesses are on the increase including health problems such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, kidney failure, osteoarthritis, back pain and psychological damage. The strong association between obesity and cancer has only recently come to light. In the opinion of experts, 90% of cancers could be prevented with the right level of nutrition.

Whatever your level of wellness you are at, improving your nutrition wil lift you to a higher level of wellness. It will help you stay healthier longer, age more slowly and get more out of life.

3 Basic Steps To Optimum Wellness

1 - Balance Your Diet

You need to get enough of the right foods including colourful fruits and vegetables, protein, good carbohydrates and just enough good fats for the taste you want. You also need vitamins, minerals and fiber from dietary supplements to provide the nutrition missing from your diet that your cells need for good health.

2 - Drink Lots of Water

Your body is about two-thirds water. In an average day, you lose about one and a half litres of water even without excessive sweating. To feel your best, you should drink 6 to 8 large glasses of water a day.

3 - Exercise Regularly

Regular exercise can help you feel and look your best. Exercise conditions your heart and relieves stress and makes it easier to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.

However, check with your doctor before beginning an exercise program. Once you get the go-ahead, start slowly and gradually work up to longer and more strenuous workouts. Overtraining, especially when you're just starting out, can lead to strains and injuries.

When you don't have the time and daily exercise isn't practical for you:
Set a goal of exercising four times a week in 30-minute sessions. You can count minutes of activity that are already part of your day, such as time spent gardening, towards a goal of 30 minutes of exercise accumulated throughout the day. If you're driving to work, try parking farther away from your workplace to get a brief walk in. Or, if at all feasible, give up the car and walk or cycle in combination with or without public transport. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Find the exercise that works best for your lifestyle, whether it's at a gym, on a hiking path or on a playing field. If you're going to exercise outside, make sure you protect your face and exposed parts of your body from sun damage.

Health and Wellness Tips For the Family




When you take responsibility for yourself, you inevitably take responsibility for others. Your responsible actions will lead as an example and when it comes to your family this is of the utmost importance. Children watch what we do and not so much what we say we will do.

As a consequence, what you put on the table to eat will reflect what you consider to be healthy. The first tip when it comes to health and wellness is understanding. Education is critical, knowing what you eat and why it is you need to exercise is far better than just lecturing your kids on what they should eat. Sharing this and discussing it with them will bring about a broader appreciation for the subject.

Children like to emulate their parents so you must lead by example, after all, you do want what's best for your children, right? By the way you can make this fun. Just by going out and playing with the kids or going on walks gets everybody out and moving around.

By exercising, the blood flows better throughout the body which can help with mental tasks and also helps with sleep. Just by being physically fit you can take on your daily chores with far more ease and energy. The notion of course is to have your children grow up fit and strong.

Having good energy is vital, it increases vitality and it also frames your outlook on life as a whole. The less energy you have the more down you are, in this state having to do anything becomes a bit of a nightmare. Your energy will rub off on your children. You see, wellness covers a wide spectrum which can include behavior and attitude.

Being healthy also improves your self image; you will in general feel better about yourself and the way you look. When you are healthy you are a more of a balanced human being. Health and wellness includes harmony.

You yourself as a parent need to be healthy in order to provide the most you can for your children. Healthy parents will provide a healthy environment and together with your children you can learn about eating right and staying fit.

A healthy family will have less stress, because health is not just about the absence of disease it is just as equally about a state of well being. Teach your children about nutrition and organic foods. When it comes to exercise you do not have to spend hours at the gym, instead you can take brief walks after dinner.

Health and Wellness Coaching – What’s All This Stuff About?




Several years ago, I had heard of coaching and even used a coach or two, but it was more for getting myself organized and getting my life pointed in the right direction. Like a counselor or a good friend (with expertise!), my coaches helped me to find perspective in my life and helped me get a clear view on where I was struggling. Once I could see the trouble spots, we were able to formulate a specific plan that I had to work and follow until our next meeting. At each meeting we'd review the previous one, discuss how I was coming along with my goals, troubles I might be having attaining those goals or completing tasks, and then coach on those or move on to new goals.

What I didn't realize is that the coaching I was receiving was helping to change me on the inside and my practice was then changing, too! I was becoming a Health and Wellness Coach. Today, I'm able to consult with patients and clients, to help them realize their health challenges, coach them to set goals for improving their health and well-being, and then chart a course with them to get them to where they want to be.

Here is how I explain coaching:
Coaching is an emerging service profession based on concepts from sports, business, spirituality, psychology and organizational development. It's for passionate people like you who want more from their personal and business lives. A coach can help you set larger, more rewarding goals, develop a strategy to achieve them, and provide support throughout the process. It's not unlike having a personal trainer or an athletic coach... transformational, but in a business and personal sense. The achievement of goals is something that comes more quickly as a result of the coaching partnership.

With ever increasing toxicity plaguing our environment, and a food supply nearly void of nutrients, it's imperative that we all take responsibility for educating ourselves about the basics. Why should the foods I eat be organic? Why do I need supplemental vitamins, minerals, and herbs? How does my unique body chemistry, including blood type, metabolic type, age, gender, race, and personal history figure in to my plan for achieving optimal health? Why should I avoid "wrapping myself in blanket statements" put out by the media regarding solutions to my various health issues?

When you connect with a Health and Wellness Coach, you align yourself with someone who can provide you with the answers to these and your many other questions regarding your health. You engage a professional who will help you discover all the areas of your health that need your attention, set realistic goals to achieve increased energy and vitality, and create rewards for all of your "little successes".

Health comes from you, not to you. It must be cultivated and cared for. Results will be steady, but you must know the path to take.

So I suggest that you find yourself a Health and Wellness Coach; a person with the knowledge and skills to help you evaluate where your health lies today. Someone to set you on a path to take you where you want to be. You can self-medicate, but you likely can't achieve total health on your own.

I urge you to take your life and your health seriously; to find someone who cares about you and can help you find the health and well-being you desire, and deserve.
